CONGRATS AVO LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!
Hello future Team!
Our current team are some of the best kids I've worked with in my 12+ years of coaching runners. You guys will be amazing in the fall!!
We have a no-contact period from June 19th-July 3rd, and then we plan to train at 7:30am at either Guajome Regional Park, or VHS track. Workouts are always about 90 minutes, and usually this is 3-5 days per week in the summer. We never meet on Sundays. Recently we've trained 6 days per week, since about November and were able to have a short dual meet season that ended in March and transitioned straight into Track & Field.
We train in groups based on experience, and we always have newcomers who start off running 20-30 minutes slow, and sprint hills or the track twice a week. Some end up staying in that group for years, or move up as high as 60 miles per week if I'm sure they can do it without serious injuries. We do lots of strength training and flexibility to stay healthier and support the necessary mileage to meet our goals. We have some serious runners, but everyone has fun and it's a very supportive and welcoming environment.
Make sure you have a yearly sports physical ASAP before August. Your running shoes should be something very similar to Brooks: Adrenaline, or Nike: Pegasus. They are about $150, and you'll go through about 4 pairs each year. That is the best investment to ensure health and good progress. We will have a team store for other gear about half way through the summer.
Can't wait to meet you guys!
